December 13
Received a message from reader Sharon:
"I am looking for a copy of the 4 Art Nouveau Cats that were in Cross Stitch Gold Magazine. The cats were bright colored.
I have started the project but my copy got destroyed."
I know what project she is talking about as I've seen it, but I do not have a copy of that issue. If you can provide her with a copy, please let me know, and I will put her in touch with you.
Thanks!

I just completed two cross stitch greeting cards:
Earlier this year, I reconnected with my college roommate after more than 20 years. Her birthday is here, so I cross stitched this adorable teddy bear for her. The chocolate chips on the cookie are beads (remember, I totally dislike french knots!).

I cross stitched this Hot Air Balloon last year for a friend's birthday, but never got it mounted. Now that it is completed, she will receive it this year.
Now, back to finishing the Christmas greeting card!
December 12
If you are still looking for something to stitch for a holiday gift, you are just about out of time. But you have time if it is small! I am almost finished cross stitching a Christmas card for my husband. I hope to stitch a kitchen towel before Christmas. My physical therapist's wife loves English Springer Spaniels. (PT for a sprained ankle and plantar fascitis.) Hopefully, I have time to stitch one on a towel for them. Of course, photos will be posted.
Stitchery Club meeting last night was fun with everyone present. Fresh homemade cookies, handmade chocolates, satsumas, and other chocolates were available to munch on. Seemed like last night everyone came to the meeting just to relax and get away from holiday stressors. Glad I could accommodate you!
We meet again on December 18th our last meeting of the year. My husband will break open a bottle of wine to go with any chocolates and cookies available. We will have non-alcoholic available as well.
We wish you all a very Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, Happy Hanukkah and a Safe New Year!

A few postings ago, I showed off a quilt that was done by one of our Stitchers years ago. It was crocheted using the Tunisian stitch. If you want to learn to do the Tunisian stitch, check out the class on the Annie's Crafts website:
http://www.anniescatalog.com/onlineclasses/detail.html?code=CCV02
Would love to have a photo of your completed project for our website!
If you need to do a baby gift, Kooler Designs has many baby items to cross stitch. Have a look at their website -- some great stuff there!
Ooops! I screwed up on the Stitchery Club meeting schedule. I guess we were supposed to meet last night, but I was looking at the wrong calendar! So our Stitchery Club meetings for December will be December 11th and 18th as the fourth Tuesday is Christmas Day, December 25. Sorry for the confusion!
I thought I would not be stitching anything for Christmas this year, but, alas, I am. Since my husband doesn't check out my website, I can tell you all that I am stitching a set of 4 drink coasters for him for Christmas. This came about by accident. I was stitching a dolphin for a greeting card. He loves dolphins. He wanted it. So I am stitching several more items to make a complete set of coasters. Silly me! Did I really think I could stitch a dolphin and get away with giving it to someone else! ;-) Same goes for Camels, Owls and King Tut.
Lastly, club members would like to put up a stitchery display in the local Mountlake Terrace Public Library entrance display case. As soon as I get that scheduled, I will let you know. Until then, think about what you would like to put up for Library patrons to see. We hope to encourage more people into the stitchery world.

November 9
Wow -- Twice in one week I've added things to the website! Yes, miracles do happen!
If you remember, I love to do cross stitch greeting cards. I did two recently. The designs were from cross stitch magazine free kits. All supplies are included in the kits, including needle and card stock. The card stock is usually very small, like for a gift tag, so I like to put the stitched project on a larger card and give as an actual greeting card. Many of my recipients save their stitched greeting cards. My older brother display his and his wife's cards in their large "shrunk" he shipped from overseas where he was stationed for many years in the US Air Force. Other family and friends place them on their fireplace mantels until the next one arrives, but all are saved.
Here is Winnie the Pooh, a favorite among my younger relatives. I like to use the background paper as part of the design if I can. I then added the Bee ribbon for a nice touch.
Snoopy
Who doesn't like Snoopy?! This design was quick and easy to stitch. I added him to the butterfly paper. I attached rhinestones to the two lower flowers. The two upper metallic butterflies are secured only by the bodies with the wings gently folded up. Really cool!
Ooops, I have shown you these earlier. That's okay as I have provided more information in this write-up!
If you wish to see more greeting cards, mostly non-cross stitch greeting cards, feel free to pop over to my Earth Dragon Creations blog. Making greeting cards, stitchery and stamp collecting are the three items that keep me most busy the past five years since I've been on disability. Of course, there's always housekeeping, baking, gardening (in good weather), etc., as my health allows.
While I've been on crutches....
I've been on crutches for the past 10 weeks (ankle sprain), so I have been doing more greeting cards, stitching and stamps. I've also read a lot. My cats love it! Here is Lily enjoying my legs while I'm stitching the wedding card designs while watching TV.
Have a great weekend!

Isn't he just too cute!! This is my banker's new baby (their first), Mason, wearing one of the bibs I stitched for him.
What have you stitched lately?
Lots of Holiday sales on through Herrschners.com, Mary Maxim, and many others, so if you need to get something quick to stitch for the Holidays, be sure to check out their websites (via our Links page). Happy Stitching!
October 24
I am still on crutches, and with the fall rains finally here, there is no gardening to putter around with. This leaves lots more time for reading, card making and stitchery!
From the stitchery donations we have received over the past year, I have taken out all the unclaimed DMC floss and put them into a basket. When members run short of floss, feel free to dig into the basket for the needed color. I have beads galore as well if you use beads in your stitchery. The rest of the stitchery donations have now been passed on to another group.
The wedding gift table runner I have been working on is almost finished. The entire design is completed; I am now adding beads to it. Last to put on are the names of the bride and groom, and the wedding date. The table runner is stamped cross stitch, but the names and date will be freehand (counted cross stitch). Last night, at stitchery club, I completed the stitching for the wedding card. It looks great!! It is counted cross stitch.
How many times have you started a project, then tossed it because it was just terrible? I have never done so -- until now. I have screwed up big time before. One baby quilt I did years ago I used the wrong shade of brown floss on a baby lion. Instead of tearing it out, I left it. When the quilt was finished, I liked it better than the color shade the instructions originally wanted me to use! (Stamped cross stitch.)
For the project that looked so terrible I tossed it -- it is this wedding card I am working on. It is a counted cross stitch rose. I wanted to have metallics in the rose. My first attempt, I used WAY too much metallics. The rose looked like a blob of red colors. My backstitching did not differentiate between the various shades of red. I also used 2 strands of floss for the cross stitching, which showed too much aida between my stitches. So I tossed it. (My husband was shocked!) My second attempt on the wedding card, I decided only one shade of the reds would contain metallic thread. I used 2 strands of cotton floss with 1 strand of matching metallic thread. What a HUGE difference this made! I continued this process on the rose stems and leaves, with only one shade of the green containing metallics. For backstitching, I used 1 strand of cotton and 1 strand of metallics. Worked perfectly! The rose is gorgeous! Now time to turn it into a wedding card. I will post photos when it is completed.

Completed projects this month:
Pumpkin Hat
Member Carol Ann crocheted this adorable Pumpkin Hat for a young relative of hers. Just too cute!!
Pooh
I've mentioned in the past that I got started in counted cross stitch through small card designs. I stitched Pooh a couple of months ago, and finally got around to mounting him in a card this past weekend. With the bee ribbon, he is just adorable!
Snoopy
At the same time, I mounted Snoopy into a card. Notice the 3-D butterflies.
Top Tips for Beading
If you are into using beads on your stitchery, then here are some helpful hints in using them:
1. Always wash your work before adding beads -- these should be the finishing touch to your project.
2. Separate your beads into colours before starting.
3. Use a special rubber bead nabber to pick beads up.
4. Coordinate your thread with the colour of your bead.
5. Use a thin beading needle to attach your beads.
6. A needle threader helps you pass the thread through the small eye of a beading needle.
7. Use a half stitch to attach your bead first of all.
8. You may need to use a second half sttich in the other direction to secure the bead. Let the two strands fall either side of the bead.
9. Avoid stitching over other threads when finishing off your bead as this will make it more difficult to unpick if you run into problems later on.
10. When ironing your finished stitching, it's a good idea to lay the piece face down on a fluffy towel to protect the beads.

It is amazing how much time flies between postings. But I haven't been laying around! Between losing a family member and attending his service, and ending up on crutches after severely twisting my ankle, I've been working on my book (nothing to do with stitchery) and working on the cross stitch wedding gift due in January.
I receive a ton of e-mails and e-newsletters from my favorite suppliers and others. The past couple of postings, we've talked about Tunisian stitches. Lo' and behold, I get an e-newsletter from Annie's and guess what -- Learn how to crochet Tunisian cables. This is available in regular book format or to be downloaded. I'd love to see your completed Tunisian cable project when it is completed!
While at my mother's for her partner's memorial service, I spotted a stitchery project I did for her and Gordon several years ago:

Pillowcase set
Acorn pillowcases. I probably bought then from Herrschners.com. Mom still uses them today.
The Kitten and Flowers pillowcases shown in our header bar, I also did for Mom. She still uses them.
I also did an Ivy pillowcase set for Gordon one year; I believe Mom still has them and uses them.
One of these projects had a table runner with it and I know mom has used it in the past. When I find the photos, I will upload them. These are all done in stamped cross stitch.

Member Kimberly finally finished her Lighthouse counted cross stitch, which took months to do. It is currently in the frame shop. Great job Kimberly!!

Stitchery Club meeting last night was fun! We received a package of stitchery goodies and opened it up after everyone got here. Everyone took something home, but there is still loads left! If you need charts, there are a lot of magazines in the box -- heavy on baby and wedding designs. There are also mats if you need some. I'm setting the floss aside, will sort it and it will be available to any member working on a project and run out of a color. There are also kits in the box, mostly weddings and baby stuff. We will receive another box of stitchery donations from this lady whenever she finds it in her garage....
The September 25 meeting will be held at Wendy I.'s home. Contact me for her address if you plan on going.
Some members have ceased coming to the meetings due to new work schedules, so we have a couple of empty chairs. If your schedule now allows you to come stitch on 2nd and 4th Tuesdays, come on over (6:30 - 9:00 pm). Bring dinner if you do not have time to eat before you arrive. Bring your current project to work on, show off the project you just finished, and show off the new project you plan on starting.
For those of you in hot weather -- stay cool!

With summer finally here in the Pacific Northwest of the USA, I am working in the flower and vegetable gardens for an hour or two in the morning before it gets too warm. We have been eating fresh bush beans, raspberries, strawberries and blueberries. The blueberries are almost done for the season, but I have a couple quarts in the freezer for blueberry muffins and pancakes this winter. We finally have blooms on our tomatoes, squash and cucumbers, so hopefully, we will be eating those in a month or so -- before winter hits. In the meantime, I have been stitching in the evenings.
I received the Red Heart Yarns catalogue from Herrschners and those will be available at tonight's Stitchery Club meeting. If you are not able to come to the meets, but live in the area, stop by for your copy. If you live outside our area, contact Herrschners and request your copy. The catalogues are pretty handy for anyone who works with yarn.
The photos below show two afghans that club member Wendy did many years ago. The first one was crocheted using the Swedish Embroidery (Weaving) stitch. The bird afghan was made using the Tunisian (Afghan) stitch. Beautiful work, Wendy!!

Holiday Towel
A holiday hand towel for this coming season. It came in a set of two, so I still need to finish the other one, hopefully, in time for the holidays.
What are you stitching for the holidays this year?
The second set of baby bibs this year is complete! These went to my personal banker. It is really nice to have a banker that will listen to you and just have a chat, you have a name instead of a number, and they are happy to see you! Love my bank! Eleanor is due to have the baby within the next couple of weeks. Since this is her first baby, well....the baby will come when he is ready (yes, it's a boy!).
These bibs were fun to do and took only 14½ hours to complete.

If you haven't checked out Cross Stitch for Beginners website lately, time to check them out again. They now have 10 lessons on-line. They have added a Blog and a (product) Review section. Great information for the beginner cross stitcher. There is a section for experienced stitchers. Once you register with them, you have access to numerous free charts. Check them out and enjoy!
If you live in the Puget Sound area of Washington state, USA, remember to sign up for Doug Kreinik's Metallic & Silk Mystery Tour in September with The Needlepointer in Everett. I and member Wendy are looking forward to attending the workshop and checking out the gift pack!
If you need a new DMC Shopper's Checklist to keep track of the DMC floss you need to purchase, go to the link above, scroll down to Using Our Products and choose DMC Conversion Charts. The checklist as well as several conversion charts are listed -- just download and print out what you need for your next shopping trip and/or stitchery project. It appears that the Shopper's Checklist has been updated to match current colors. All these lists are a must-have for any Stitcher!
Another place to acquire Floss Conversion Charts is CyberStitchers. Ever have trouble figuring out how much aida/fabric you need for a project? CyberStitchers has a fabric calculator! There are a lot of wonderful things on this website, so be sure to spend time exploring the site.
Lastly, I would like to mention a website I've recently discovered -- The Stitchers' Village. I am still exploring the site, but I like what I see. Check them out when you have a chance.
Remember, you can always send me photos of your work (and you) to post on our website. Let us know of stitchery stores and expos in your area. Off to start stitching a wedding gift for January!

About a week ago I received my order for the baby bibs gift set and wedding table runner project I had ordered from Herrschners. Included with my order was a catalogue I had never seen before -- Red Heart Yarns (I am familiar with Red Heart yarns, but had never seen the catalogue). Maybe some of you get this catalogue, but I have not. It is a GREAT catalogue showing all the colors Herrschners has available in their various yarns -- 14 colors in Super Saver Chunky, Art E778; 54 colors in their Classic, Art E267 yarn; 20 colors in their Light & Lofty, Art E708 yarn; 7 colors in their Sweet Baby, Art E766 yarn; over 100 colors along in their Super Saver Art E300 yarn; and so on -- so many types and colors to choose from.
I really like this catalogue as it SHOWS the colors of each type of yarn, so no more guess work! I contacted Herrschners asking them to send me a dozen copies of their catalogue and to send me future issues. If they do send me these catalogues, I will let you know when they are available. You can pick your copy up at the next club meeting. If you are one of our stitchers who live out of state, I will let you know when the new issue is out so you can contact Herrschners to get your copy.
All for today -- have a great weekend coming up!

Has it really been that long since I last wrote?!!! Shame on me! I'm getting into a really bad habit here...Well, we will just have to change that.
Between late May and middle of June, friends from Belgium and family from Eastern Washington and California (USA) have been up for visits to help celebrate my 50th birthday, and enjoy part of their vacations in the Pacific Northwest. I got very little stitching done those 3½ weeks.
Two weeks ago, we received a large donation mostly, of heavy fabric, but also containing light-weight fabric, lace, bric-brac, bias tape, quilting books, and patterns. This 91-year old darling quilts, sews and braids rugs. Her braided rugs are beautiful! She is cleaning out her home for a future move. Her friend found our website and contacted me to see if we would be interested in the remnants. My husband and I picked it up over the weekend, and our members went through the stock the last meeting night. The rest was given to our local Mountlake Terrace Senior Center the other day. They will go through, take what they want, and then pass the remainder on to someone else/another group. We will probably receive more donations from this lady in the future.
If you wish to be on our Northwest Stitchery Club mailing list, be sure to fill out the Contact Us form. I periodically send out e-mails for club meeting schedules, local library stitchery club displays, and when we receive donations. Our members are from Washington, Oregon, Utah, Nevada, Maine, Canada and Belgium. Of course, many do not attend our meetings, but I do disperse information that would be of interest to all. Our faraway members are more than welcome to attend the meetings when they are in the Seattle, Washington, area for business or vacation.

She is expecting a new grandbaby in August. These are the four square designs Kimberly is making into a baby quilt. Our members are at all different levels of their needlearts. Kimberly had no problem crocheting these designs, but had little idea of how to put them together. Member Carol Ann showed her how to do that. Then, Kimberly showed Carol Ann how to do a crochet pattern she has been wanting to learn.
The members got to talking about a crocheting stitch. Member Wendy asked me if we had Wi-Fi in the house. She whipped out her Kindle Fire, logged on to the network and, lo and behold, there was the stitch they were discussing -- Tunisian (afghan) Stitch. It made for enlightening discussion.
Remember, back on May 21, I posted a photo of my neighbor showing off the Bambi baby bib I did for her baby shower? The second bib is now complete:

Since these bibs were completed, I found out that my personal banker is having a baby in August (a boy). So I ordered a baby bib set from Herrschners as well as a table runner for a wedding I hope to attend in India in January. With Herrschners already having a sale on their Halloween and Christmas items, I also ordered a Halloween plastic canvas project for my husband to work on. Looks like we have plenty of stitching to do this summer and fall!
Like our Stitchers, I am sure many of you have problems finding a reliable DMC thread chart to keep track of colors you need. DMC recently updated their website. I downloaded their latest color chart and will have copies available at the next club meeting. If you need a chart sooner than that (or at any time in the future), let me know. I will email you a copy. You can only access this part of the site if you sign up for their Mentor program. As a Mentor, not only can you access the checklist, but free designs and many other valuable tools to assist you in teaching others cross stitch and embroidery. I've been a Mentor for several years and enjoy what is available for us. You will need Acrobat Reader to read and print the DMC checklist.
If you are into Needlepoint, be sure to visit The Needlepointer website. If you enjoy what they have, feel free to sign up for their e-newsletter. It is chalk full of all kinds of information. Club member Wendy and I signed up for a class in September which we are both looking forward to. It is Doug Kreinik's Metallic & Silk Mystery Tour. If the information is not on The Needlepointer's website, then call them if you wish to sign up. Hurry as classes are filling up!

Baby Quilt
Member Kimberly crocheted this baby quilt for the new grandbaby coming in August, a boy!
Eagle sampler
Member Wendy is almost finished with her Eagle sampler. She has been working on this for a long time! All that is left to do is the tedious task of backstitching.
Eagler sampler upclose
This is going to be great when Wendy finishes it. I will post a completed photo.
Christmas is coming.....
so be sure to check out all your favorite stitchery stores and websites to get your holiday project started soon!
I completed this project two years ago -- it is one of my favorites!
Next time -- crocheted items my younger sister and I inherited from our relatives, complete with photos....
I'll be stitching while watching the fireworks on TV tonight. Have a Safe & Happy 4th of July everyone!

I cannot believe it has been two months since I updated the website. That's what a cold, infection and severely irritated asthma will do for you. I won't go into details, but it was nasty. I finally recovered, took a little vacation (that's been planned for over six months) and still came back healthy. So, what's been happening?
Herrschner's, Mary Maxim and Annie's Attic have had plenty of spring sales the past several months, and a Christmas sale -- last year's Christmas items at really good prices. With Memorial Day (in the USA) coming up, I am expecting additional sales from all of them. If you have not signed up for their e-newsletters and e-sales, I encourage you to do so.
The baby shower for my next door neighbor went well on April 7. I was the photographer, so got some great photos, including all the gifts.

Baby Shower
Mother-to-be (father-to-be behind her -- sorry Chad, but I was getting a photo of Shauna and the gift) with the baby bib I stitched (took 14 hours). They were thrilled with it. Since they asked about washing instructions, it sounds like they will actually use it! Yeah!
The baby arrived a week early on May 18 (Mt. St. Helens baby), so I need to finish the other bib. Will post that photo as soon as it is completed; maybe baby and bib photo together. Keep your fingers crossed! (Permission was granted by the family to post this photo on this website.)

Took awhile to get my strength back after recovery, so didn't do a lot of stitching until recently. I am halfway done on the second baby bib. Need to also look for a wedding gift; I am thinking of a floral table runner. Will be taking advantage of those sales! This wedding gift will go to India.
The club is still meeting twice per month enjoying conversation or peace and quiet, and completing projects. We had one stitchery meeting at another member's home on April 10; that was enjoyable and it may be an annual event. Another member wants to host stitchery club at her home, so we are working on scheduling it.
Two of our regular members are not attending as much anymore, mostly due to work schedules. Thus, a couple of seats have opened up. If you can fit second and fourth Tuesday Stitchery Nights into your schedule, come on over and start completing those birthday, anniversary, baby, holiday and personal gifts.
As soon as I complete the baby bib and wedding gift, I need to get back to my Christmas placemat and tablecloth set. I completed the 8 napkins and one placemat a year ago, so hope to finish the other two pieces this year. Then next year, I really need to get working on a quilt that I've been stitching during my travels. Time to finish it and get it out to it's new owner. Can't say who it goes to just in case she views this website. Have to keep it a surprise!

Kitty pillowcase I stitched earlier this year for a close friend. I did one pillowcase and mailed it to her to cheer her up. I hope to get the second pillowcase done by the end of the year (boy, that's a lot of things I need to get done this year!).
I also included two additional photos of the cross stitch baby bib.
Our Belgium friends will arrive next week for two days. I will let you know what stitchery goodies they bring this year. Depending on what Belgium chocolates they bring over, I usually share some with the club. We will see what this year's trip brings.
How many of you do counted cross stitch greeting cards? I have done these for many years, though not as many as I would like to. The larger projects take up so much time (but I enjoy stitching them!). Check out the Cross Stitch Greeting Cards in the Photo Gallery to see cards I've done in the past. I also do other greeting cards; you can view them on my greeting card blog (Earth Dragon Creations) if you are interested. I sell all my greeting cards, including the stitched ones, at local craft shows. I will post photos of new cross stitch greeting cards as I make them.
Be sure to sign up for the Doug Kreinik's Metallic & Silk Mystery Tour at The Needlepointer on September 21 - 22. The Tour is not listed on their website yet, so give them a call to register (phone number on their website). Classes are filling up. If you do needlepoint, they do have a good e-newsletter.
Another website to investigate if you do needlepoint or tapestry, is Tempest Tapestry. Just in the past couple months since I last viewed the site, much has been added. This company is in England, has many British designs and other non-British designs. Enjoy reviewing the site!
KNITTERS -- There is a website called AllFreeKnitting. There are many patterns that you download for free. I do not knit, but many of our members do. It is worth checking out. If you like the site, be sure to sign up for their e-newsletter.
All for now. I'd love to hear about your stitching tales, receive photos to post on our site or post questions to our members.
Happy Stitchin'!

March 23, 2012
Hi Everyone! Winter is a tough time with flu's, colds and other viruses and bugs going around. Being sick, we don't feel up to stitching, only watching TV and sleeping. I've spent the past 2-1/2 weeks in bed or on the couch watching Alien Nation and Babylon 5 due to a nasty cold and accompanying infection (which is why the website has not been updated). At least it waited until AFTER the Puyallup Sewing & Stitchery Expo! (That's probably where I picked up the bug!)
I attended the Sewing & Stitchery Expo with my sister-in-law, Marcy, on Friday, March 2. We thoroughly enjoyed the show and came home with nice goodies. Marcy is a quilter, but does do some cross stitch. I am strictly a cross-stitcher. Marcy was looking for Cat in the Hat and other Seuss fabric for a quilt for a new nephew coming (birth) in a few months. About 3/4 through the show, we finally found what she was looking for -- and many others were buying the same fabric!
For myself, I found a book on instructions and techniques on Blackwork -- now if I can just find a book with great, modern flora and fauna designs, I would be in stitchery heaven! I have done small greeting card blackwork designs and thoroughly enjoyed them. I always stop at TreadleArt as they have great books on all types of needlework.
One booth at the Expo always has blanks, in fact they are called All About Blanks. I didn't buy anything from them this year as I had plenty of blanks from previous years -- tea towels, table runners, etc. Embellishment Village is the perfect place to get buttons and charms to enhance your stitchery, which I like to do.
Those of you who have embroidery machines, the Sewing & Stitchery Expo is the place to be to acquire designs and thread. Many workshops on machine embroidery and sewing are available at the Expo.
Since Stoney Creek Cross Stitch no longer travels to our local Sewing & Stitchery Expo, this opened the door for a new stitchery company to come in. In fact, we got two! The Needlepointer is a local store out of Everett, Washington. I haven't been up there in a few years and was not sure if they were still open. They are mostly for needlepoint crafters, but they have a wide range of stitchery materials for all of us. I was quite surprised and thrilled to see The Needlepointer at the Expo! If you enjoy using Kreinik Metallic and Silk thread in your stitchery, then you may be interested in attending the Doug Kreinik's Metallic & Silk Mystery Tour at The Needlepointer on September 21 - 22. This event is not yet listed on their website, but I have brochures available at the next club meeting on March 27. I plan on signing up.
Another surprise is finding a second Cross Stitch company at the show -- Bobbie G's Designs. They are out of California and on-line and Expos only. I thought I pretty much knew all the stitchery places on the US west coast, but I am happily proved wrong! Bobbie G's has great designs and I found a wonderful seashore alphabet sampler -- which some of the club members love as well! It looks like Bobbie G's will be at the Quilt, Craft & Sewing Festival in Puyallup, Washington on November 15 - 17. It has been several years since we attended this festival, so maybe it is time my husband and I visit again.
One of our club members made it to the Expo as well. She and her husband enjoyed it and found a few goodies to bring home.
If you are heavy into quilting, you may be interested in attending the Pacific West Quilt Show on August 24 - 26, 2012 at the Greater Tacoma Convention & Trade Center (Tacoma, Washington). It is a juried and judged show of the finest quilts from the Pacific West region. There will be a fashion show, workshops and many wonderful quilts to view.
There are new photos in the Photo Gallery for you to enjoy. Happy Stampin' Everyone!

Time just flies when one is busy. Two Fridays ago, I was watching the nephew -- he is now 3 years old. Last weekend, we had him again so his parents could have their "ME" day. Ever taken one of those? It is hard to start off the day without responsibilities or a schedule. Within a couple of hours though, you are just enjoying yourself to the max! For my ME day, I have to leave the house since I am home full-time. If only there was a stitchery store nearby; otherwise, I find myself at the scrapbooking store looking for items to make my greeting cards (feel free to visit my greeting card blog). So, let's talk stitchery!
The Pacific Northwest Sewing & Stitchery Expo, sponsored by Washington State University, is coming up fast, March 1 - 4. My sister-in-law and I are attending this annual event. Unsure of the day as she is currently on vacation in Mexico. Her birthday is March 1, so we always try to go that day. Happy Birthday Marcy! There are many classes available during the Expo for sewing, machine embroidery and quilting. Periodically, cross stitchers and embroiderers find something. There are stage shows throughout the 4 days. An event not to be missed! After we have gone through the Expo, we usually end our trip with a nice strawberry shortcake! Hope to see some of you there!
Lots of great items to stitch in the April 2012 issue of Cross Stitch Crazy. For those of you who love the British Somebunny, there's a cute spring sampler just waiting to be stitched. Lots of news on what is going on in the stitchery industry, including big craft shows in the UK. If you love Jon Bon Jovi, make sure you get your copy to stitch him. I love all things India, so the 50 Indian gift ideas made me quite happy. And there are 4 designs directly related to Peacocks, so I am extra happy! There's a pillow design consisting of 8 butterflies, including an Inachis Io (Peacock butterfly). I plan on stitching this sampler, but I probably will not do a pillow. I may do each butterfly as a greeting card design or simply just a sampler. There is a set of cats in various costumes -- very cute for us cat people. With Easter coming up, several projects are available, including Spring/Easter ABC's. If you love purses, there is a set of Bags for you to stitch. Babies and Flowers round out this excellent issue.
Here's a new twist to cross stitching....Gecko Rouge Gallery. If you are up to a challenge, there are plenty here to choose from.
I was re-reading my October 2011 issue of Cross Stitch Crazy when an advertisement caught my eye. It was for a cross-stitchers Thread Tracker app. It can be used on any iPod Touch, iPhone or iPad. Visit www.touchscreencraft.wordpress.com to get your app. The app costs 99 cents (US).
Lots of sales going on. Herrschners.com is having an anniversary sale. So have to get the gorgeous Peacock puzzle that's on sale in their latest catalogue!

Cross Stitched Hedgehog
Birthday card I stitched for my sister-in-law Marcy a few years ago. She loves hedgehogs, so she adored this card. My brother and Marcy alway save the stitched cards I make as they see them as the treasures they are!
Member Carol Anne using new yarn
She is doing the Half Double crochet method using Size G crochet hook. Very soft Chenille with ribbon, multi-colored and gray, light (DK) weight yarn. She is making a Scoodie -- scarf and hoodie combination.
She acquired the yarn and pattern from Annie's Hook and Needle Club. Something to check out if you are interested in new patterns and yarns.
I have been working on a baby bib for my neighbor having their first child. Almost done, so should have a photo up next week.
All for this week. Happy Stitchin' everyone!

There are some things that husbands should never share with their wives -- nasty colds are one. After spending four days in bed, I am back updating the website.
Sales are abounding right now. Marymaxim.com has some neat yarns on sale and patterns galore to go with them.
herrschners.com is having their Expanded White Sale, and their Spring 2012 catalogue is showing their spring line-up.
Haven't heard from anyone regarding the January 20 question about the value of a 1968 Singer Featherweight sewing machine. Anyone?
The March 2012 issue of Cross Stitch Crazy has a few items of interest. I love the Grace Kelly chart. The Bees in the 50 Gardening Gift Ideas set is too cute, and I will have to do them for my husband. My brother and his wife raise bees and produce honey, so I will probably do a hand towel for them. The Crazy for Landmarks set will be enjoyable to stitch -- Rome's Colosseum, US Empire State Building, France's Eiffel Tower, US Statue of Liberty, India's Taj Majal, Australia's Sydney Opera House, England's Big Ben, Egypt's Great Pyramids of Giza and Italy's Tower of Pisa. I will do some of the Frog greeting card designs for a younger sister who loves Frogs.
Club members reviewed the magazine last night at the meeting and agreed that the KEEP CALM and START STITCHING sampler was the one to work on. Members claim that their needle arts craft calms their nerves and anger when they've had a bad day. I have to agree!
Lot's of other great cross stitch charts, so be sure to get your issue soon!
Next month's issue of Cross Stitch Crazy will have some Butterfly designs and designs of India -- I can't wait!!
I have added some excellent stitchery websites to our Links page, so be sure to hop over and take a look. Puzzles & Games page has something fun for you to work on.
Are you stitching something special for Valentine's Day? St. Patrick's Day? Easter? Mother's Day? Father's Day? Birthdays, weddings, baby showers? Feel free to send me a photo or two of your project so we can add it to our photos pages. Remember, we accept anything related to stamped and counted cross stitch, embroidery, quilting, crochet, latch hook, tatting, latch hook rugs, needlepoint and all manner of needle arts. If you have important news, feel free to send me the information so I can put it up on the website.
The Pacific Northwest Sewing & Stitchery Expo is coming March 1, so check out their website, get your tickets and see you there! http://www.sewexpo.com/
NEEDED: Holiday stitching charts to go with XMAS 2009 Issue 2 Enjoy Cross Stitch at Christmas! packet. One of our members has the aida, thread, greeting card materials and Christmas stocking pattern, but no magazine that goes with this issue in order to do the greeting cards. A photocopy of the design and color charts would be acceptable. Thanks!
'Til next time...Happy Stitchin'!

The husband has been home pretty much all week due to several snow storms in a row followed by an ice storm. All 7+ inches of our snow is quickly melting, which will create a huge, slushy, flooding mess. Ah...the "joys" of living in the Pacific Northwest.....
Since we've been housebound, I did get some stitching done. Checked out a few stitchery websites and cruised the Spring 2012 catalogue from Mary Maxim. Lot of new and stylish scarf projects and yarn on sale. Be sure to check out their website: www.marymaxim.com If you are into puzzles, Mary Maxim has a number of them on sale. They are having a clearance on their Bounce yarn which is excellent for socks. Lots of quilting, plastic canvas stitching and other projects to keep anyone busy over the winter.
Member Victoria wants to know:
"I am trying to find the value of my Singer Featherweight
I bought in 1968 brand new."
If you have any idea of value, please let me know and I will pass the information on to her. Thanks for your help!
If you enjoy reading, member Heidi is enjoying a new book series called "The Knitter's Life List" by Gwen W. Steege, Storey Publishing, LLC, 2011.
There is a change in our Stitchery Meeting Schedule for March, so be sure to look at the schedule posted.
I received notice from our Belgium friends they will be taking their U.S. holiday in late May/early June. They will bring whatever stitchery they have saved up for us. Come to the meetings in June to see what they bring! We still have some sewing items left over from a box that was donated a couple of months ago, so be sure to look through the box if you haven't done so.
That's all for this week. See you at the meetings. Keep in touch via e-mail or Facebook.

- One of the things the author did was take a survey of a bunch of knitters. One of the little lists was favorite patterns. Another list was other fiber arts, and surprisingly cross stitch and smocking were not on that list. It did have sewing, quilting, weaving, spinning, crocheting, and embroidery. The book had vignettes of knitting designers....Strangely, the book included movies that had knitting in them and mentioned Knit Flix and a Web search of Knitting in the Movies. The book also mentioned knitting retreats and to invite your friend, sister, or mother to come with you to the retreat.

Got this from my Facebook newsfeed. Thanks Wendy!

Somehow, updating the website earlier today got set on the back burner when I was asked to babysit the baby for a couple of hours. He will be 3 on Sunday.
Stitchery night (Tuesday) this week was quite enjoyable and relaxing, with a nice bottle of wine (those who drink wine limits themselves to a small glass which is not enough to impair their driving; sometimes we have snacks to go with it). Despite all the chit-chat in catching up on holiday events, we did get quite a bit of stitching done. Carol Ann showed a new scarf she was working on -- very soft! Kimberly is still working on her lighthouse sampler -- very detailed. Wendy is still chewing on what major project to stitch next since she finished her candle wrap (see photos). I am working on a cat pillow case for a girlfriend, but I will have to set that aside and work on the Bambi baby bib set I got from Janlynn.com for my neighbor; she is due in late May, but the baby shower is in early March.
Now that winter and cold weather have finally settled in, we are all working on stitchery projects more. I also have a "surgery" card to make for my niece who is having her tonsils removed in February. Might as well do a few Birthday and Holiday cards as those sneak up on us before we are ready for them!
Sales currently going on:
Herrschner's for Yarn and books:http://www.herrschners.com/yarnsale.aspx?sourcecode=2210710&link=6&[email protected] Good until January 18th.
Herrschner's quilt and other needle-art sales can be found at: http://www.herrschners.com/needleworksale.aspx?sourcecode=2210769&link=6&[email protected]
Herrschner's is also having a 55% sale: http://www.herrschners.com/hotbuys.aspx?sourcecode=2210830&link=6&[email protected]
Sewing & Stitchery Expo in Puyallup, Washington, USA, is coming up quickly -- March 1 - 4. Have you got your tickets? Their blog: http://sewingandstitcheryexpo.blogspot.com/ and their website: http://www.sewexpo.com/ Would love to hear of your experience and what you liked and did not like about the expo. Let me know, and I'll pass the word on to the show organizers!
Annie's Attic is another site I like to periodically check out their wares: http://www.anniesattic.com/cross-stitch/index.html
Be sure to sign up for e-newsletters for each of these stitchery websites so you can be up-to-date on their sales.
Lastly, I received the February 2012 issue of Cross Stitch Crazy out of England. As usual, it was passed around the club for everyone to view. One mentioned she needed to quit buying and working on larger projects and do a bunch of small projects, like cross stitch greeting cards. In passing, I said, "Well, if I had a place, I could bring out the bookcase full of magazines and create a check-in/check-out system." The response: "Now that's a thought! I like that idea!" Problem is, my front room won't hold another bookcase. What would I move out and put it where?? Will have to work on this idea...
Okay, on the February issue of CSC: The kitty pillow is adorable! Don't know of anyone who owns an Old English Sheepdog, but a great design for a birthday card. No one was really thrilled with the 50 Pamper ideas, but we loved the Forest Folk ABC designs! Will definitely have to do some. We would have liked to have realistic Chinese New Year designs instead of these goofy ones, but to each their own. Need a place to hang your house, vehicle and other keys? Cute 4-house design with instructions on how to create the key holder. Saw other flowers, birds, dogs, etc., designs perfect for greeting cards. Of course, we always look to see what new clubs are listed and who the featured club is in each issue. Looking forward to the next issue!
Got loads more to do with this website, so keep checking back! Happy Stitchin' everyone!

I cannot believe it has been this long since I last updated the website! My apologies to all who have visited and not seen anything new! My husband and I went on vacation in the middle of July. Then, unfortunately, I've been dealing with a family emergency since August 8. I took current stitchery projects with me on daily trips to the hospital when my husband was there for 11 days in August. I spent time stitching during his recovery at home for the following two months. Now that he is back at work, I have been working on getting caught up on many things; it is time to update this website. So, let's see what we have missed:
Our Stitchery Display in July at the City's library display case was well received and enjoyed by the library patrons and the general public who used the various meeting rooms. (I will work on getting those photos up soon.)
Herrschners.com and MaryMaxim.com have had many sales, including some wonderful holiday and year-end sales. I hope you have been keeping up to date on those.
Magazines the past several months have had great designs out for Halloween, Thanksgiving (U.S.) and Christmas. I even saw a few Hanukkah designs this year (see my card in the Photo Gallery).
As for the Northwest Stitchery Club, everyone has been busy stitching items for the holidays. I did not have anything planned for holiday stitching, but did complete a holiday placemat. I have another placemat to complete, then I start work on the tablecloth. I also managed to stitch some greeting cards. See the Stitchery Gallery for latest photos of these items and what our members are doing.
For those living in Washington state of the United States, the Sewing & Stitchery Expo is coming up in March. I plan on attending with my sister-in-law; how about you? I'm not sure which day we will go, but hopefully, we will see some of you there.
The Northwest Stitchery Club meeting schedule has been updated, so feel free to stop in if you are in our area any time during the next.
In order to keep you informed on stitchery activities, events, sales, etc., my goal this year is to update the site every Friday (or at least put something on it). Feel free to check back each weekend.
Happy Stitchin' everyone!

May 27, 2011: Hi everyone! Hope you've been happily stitching away since I last wrote. I've finished an adorable Sweet Summer Plums kitchen hand towel for a dear friend of ours who brought us dinner after my surgery in mid-March. I knew I wanted to do a hand towel for her, but it took a while to find the right design. When I came across the Plums in a stitchery book, it had Dianne written all over it! She called me today after the mailman delivered it to her. She loves it! (Photos of the towel are in the Photo Gallery.)
I'd like to hear your success stories!
Received the latest Herrschner's catalogue last week. It is loaded with sales, not just stitchery, but also crafts, Christmas items, puzzles, latch hook kits, yarn and scrapbooking supplies. Scrapbooking?! I didn't know Herrschner's had scrapbooking stuff! I do not actually scrapbook, but do greeting cards and travel books (kind of scrapbooking). I went on-line to check out the scrapbook section. Ho boy! Gotta shut down the internet at my house. Ended up buying over $75.00 worth of goodies! Believe me, that was not the intention; I was just there to look, honest! So, go on over and check out the Herrschners.com website to see what you can't live without.
I received the July 2011 issue of Cross Stitch Crazy magazine the other day. If you are into Fairies, there is a very cute fairy sitting on a mushroom. Have a soccer fan in your life? Stitch Bentley Bear and his soccer ball for a greeting card. If you wish to stitch a Corgi for Queen Elizabeth's birthday, its on Page 14. With Father's Day next month, there are over 50 ideas for men's greeting cards -- sports, video games, music, various types of transportation, fishing and golf. How about a Mermaid for that special little girl in your life? My favorite is the tabby kitten curled up asleep in a floral tea cup on a saucer!
Does mum need a floral tote bag for shopping? Check the chart out on Page 42 - 46, which also includes instructions on actually making the bag yourself. Need a birthday card for a young child? Jungle Fever consists of wild animals on numbers 1 - 0. Pretty cute for that little one's birthday card. There are two tooth fairy designs for that special girl and boy.
If you are into quilting, stitch a wedding sampler -- 5 panels stitched on this attractive wall hanging.
There are a few other designs to try your hand at. Get your copy today at your local bookstore and read up on answers to questions readers have sent in, view photos of projects readers have stitched and, if you plan on traveling this summer, be sure to review the Club section.
Wait until you see the next issue of Cross Stitch Crazy.....!
With my birthday coming up on Monday, I told my husband I wanted to drive up to Camano Island and Whidbey Island of Washington state, USA (if there is time to do both), to just tour around and get out of the house for awhile. He asked me if there were any stitchery stores up there. Yes, you heard right -- HE asked! I told him I didn't know, but if we find any, you'll read about them right here next week. On Monday, he wants to take me to the theater to see the latest Pirates of the Caribbean movie. I bought the tickets off Fandango this morning.
Have a good weekend everyone! (an extended weekend here in the United States as it is a holiday on Monday). Happy Stitchin'!

April 28, 2011: I do not subscribe to The World of Cross Stitching, but this is a great magazine (as they all are!). One of our members brought her copy of Issue #175 (in your bookstores now) to a recent stitchery club meeting. I loved the 36 India designs, so went up to Barnes & Nobles to get my own copy.
Other fabulous designs in this issue: Hedgehog with a bouquet of flowers, Bambi, Bunny and daffodils, Easter egg designs (you have time to stitch these for next year!), Cat and pansies in window box, cupcakes, Bear on bicycle with a Chinese theme -- very cute!, and Home Sweet Home rose designs. There are other designs in this issue as well as many helpful tips, hints and stories. Well worth the price! Enjoy!

April 28, 2011: Since I do not knit, crochet or quilt, I am relying on members and viewers of this website who do to keep us informed of the latest news on knitting, crocheting and quilting. If you do any of these three stitcheries, please send photos, news and tidbits so we may post on our website. Your name and state (or country) you live in would be helpful so we can credit you as the source of information. Thanks!
April 28, 2011: The latest issue of Cross Stitch Crazy is out (June 2011, Issue #151). There are a variety of spring-time designs ready for you to stitch, including giraffe, lion and elephant "Welcome Baby"; birthday Bear; Border collie; 50 travel ideas; 7 girly gift bag and a few other designs.
I will have to stitch for my husband a sampler with his name on it using the Owl ABC's patterns.
For those of you who have a shoe fettish, you will want to stitch the "Money can't buy happiness, but it can buy shoes" sampler.
Of course, each issue is packed with helpful tips and ideas as well as a few stories about other stitchers and designers. If this issue is not yet in your local Borders, Barnes & Noble or other bookstore, it should be shortly (there is about a one-month delay between the time subscribers in England receive the issue and the US bookstores get the issue).
Enjoy!

April 14, 2011: Just put in a new Quilter's section. I think it will be more informational than photos, but do take a look. Would like to hear your responses.
April 12, 2011: The latest issue of Stoney Creek Cross Stitch Collection is out. I didn't find too much in this issue for me to stitch, but you might. There are a couple of holiday ornaments to work on in time for Christmas 2011. Then we jump into spring and summer with a children's beach design, flip flops and pink flamingos designs. There's a lovely hummingbird sampler that says "Regret looks back, Worried looks around, Faith looks up". There are three Graduation designs, two spring designs showing flowers and gardening, and a Prayer design. A nice Dad nautical sampler that would be fun to stitch (okay, so I'm interested in this one), and two more Dad designs including Golf and Fishing. Lastly, there is a series of 4 hand towels showing farm animals, and a sampler showing nautical flags and language. If any of these designs sound interesting to you, pop over to your local bookstore and pick up your Spring 2011 copy today. To view their website: http://www.stoneycreek.com/
April 11, 2011: Received my Mary Maxim catalogue the other day. For those of you who knit, have you tried their Patons Angora Bamboo worsted weight yarn? It is currently on sale for $2.97.
Their Mohair Glitter acrylic, wool and metallic yarn is on sale for $9.99 or $7.97 if you buy 2 or more. The finished product has got to be lovely with this yarn!
Lastly, Mary Maxim has their Polaris with Sequins acrylic and wool yarn on sale for $6.97 a skein.
At the end of the catalogue, I found a Peacock paint-by-number. I haven't done paint-by-numbers in many years! Thinking of picking it up!
Feel free to check these items and other sale items at their website: http://www.marymaxim.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/topcategory_10001_10054
